About Oceanic Sediment Research Group

Oceanic Sediment Research Group is a collaborative network of scientists studying microscopic fossils preserved in ocean sediments. Our work focuses on foraminifera, diatoms, radiolarians, and coccolithophores — organisms whose shells accumulate on the seafloor over millions of years, creating an invaluable archive of Earth's climate history.

Our Mission

We aim to advance understanding of past ocean conditions through the systematic study of marine microfossils. By analyzing the chemistry and distribution of these tiny organisms, we reconstruct sea surface temperatures, ocean circulation patterns, and atmospheric CO₂ levels stretching back through geological time.

Research Focus Areas

Collaboration

We collaborate with institutions worldwide, sharing datasets and methodologies through open-access databases. Our research contributes to international programs including the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) and the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS).
